Shortly after moving, my son was born. At that time, I had a remote “work from home” engineering job and was gifted 3 months off from any travel to be home and help Momma with the newborn. At this point in my life, I was like any other guy, I burnt burgers and steaks on my gas grill and thought I was master of my backyard kingdom.
For my three months off from work, my contribution became cooking all our meals. I took on the meal planning, grocery shopping, prep work and all the cooking. This also included all clean up and dishes, there is always a downside to any hobby.
My sister-in-law gave me a slow cooker cookbook and I quickly figured out that if I were to start my charcoal BBQ pit and use my Dutch Oven, I could reproduce every meal in that slow cooker book. I just had to figure out the timing changes and play with indirect heat. I was quite successful at it! In no time, I had cooked every recipe in that book and was devouring any cast iron or slow cooker cookbook I could get my hands on. I was invited to participate in my first ever BBQ cook off competition and took home the blue ribbon for my cowboy beans and took a trophy in brisket!
Fast forward several years and now we have started an Vacation Rental with tiny houses and started to have many guests staying at the ranch. With the "public spaces" comes the use of the outdoor kitchen and all its equipment. It was extremely enjoyable to have other people cook using my outdoor kitchen. I found that experience to be extremely enjoyable, seeing others have such a wonderful time with their families and friends, all around cooking and food.
It inspired an idea that we have been working on, to have experiences for “Cast Iron” cooking at Sorry Charlie Ranch on AirBnB. That made me think about all the food I cook and what recipe or three I would start to create this awesome experience to offer.
So here we are, website is created, experiences are on AirBnB and you are here. Don’t be bashful and book a fun filled experience with me today!
